55. Ar-Rahman

ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُThe Most Gracious﴿١﴾

The Most Merciful

عَلَّمَHe taughtٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quran﴿٢﴾

Taught the Qur'an

خَلَقَHe createdٱلْإِنسَٰنَ[the] man﴿٣﴾

Created man

عَلَّمَهُHe taught himٱلْبَيَانَ[the] speech﴿٤﴾

[And] taught him eloquence

ٱلشَّمْسُThe sunوَٱلْقَمَرُand the moonبِحُسْبَانٍby (precise) calculation﴿٥﴾

The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation

وَٱلنَّجْمُAnd the starsوَٱلشَّجَرُand the treesيَسْجُدَانِboth prostrate﴿٦﴾

And the stars and trees prostrate

وَٱلسَّمَآءَAnd the heavenرَفَعَهَاHe raised itوَوَضَعَand He has set upٱلْمِيزَانَthe balance﴿٧﴾

And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance

أَلَّاThat notتَطْغَوْا۟you may transgressفِىinٱلْمِيزَانِthe balance﴿٨﴾

That you not transgress within the balance

وَأَقِيمُوا۟And establishٱلْوَزْنَthe weightبِٱلْقِسْطِin justiceوَلَاand (do) notتُخْسِرُوا۟make deficientٱلْمِيزَانَthe balance﴿٩﴾

And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance

وَٱلْأَرْضَAnd the earthوَضَعَهَاHe laid itلِلْأَنَامِfor the creatures﴿١٠﴾

And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures

فِيهَاThereinفَٰكِهَةٌ(is) fruitوَٱلنَّخْلُand date-palmsذَاتُhavingٱلْأَكْمَامِsheaths﴿١١﴾

Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]

وَٱلْحَبُّAnd the grainذُوhavingٱلْعَصْفِhuskوَٱلرَّيْحَانُand scented plants﴿١٢﴾

And grain having husks and scented plants

فَبِأَىِّSo whichءَالَآءِ(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny﴿١٣﴾

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny

خَلَقَHe createdٱلْإِنسَٰنَthe manمِنfromصَلْصَٰلٍclayكَٱلْفَخَّارِlike the pottery﴿١٤﴾

He created man from clay like [that of] pottery

وَخَلَقَAnd He createdٱلْجَآنَّthe jinnمِنfromمَّارِجٍa smokeless flameمِّنofنَّارٍfire﴿١٥﴾

And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire

فَبِأَىِّSo whichءَالَآءِ(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny﴿١٦﴾

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny

رَبُّLordٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ(of) the two Eastsوَرَبُّand Lordٱلْمَغْرِبَيْنِ(of) the two Wests﴿١٧﴾

[He is] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets

فَبِأَىِّSo whichءَالَآءِ(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny﴿١٨﴾

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny

مَرَجَHe releasedٱلْبَحْرَيْنِthe two seasيَلْتَقِيَانِmeeting﴿١٩﴾

He released the two seas, meeting [side by side]

بَيْنَهُمَاBetween both of themبَرْزَخٌ(is) a barrierلَّاnotيَبْغِيَانِthey transgress﴿٢٠﴾

Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses
