54. Al-Qamar

ٱقْتَرَبَتِHas come nearٱلسَّاعَةُthe Hourوَٱنشَقَّand has splitٱلْقَمَرُthe moon﴿١﴾

The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]

وَإِنAnd ifيَرَوْا۟they seeءَايَةًa Signيُعْرِضُوا۟they turn awayوَيَقُولُوا۟and sayسِحْرٌMagicمُّسْتَمِرٌّcontinuing﴿٢﴾

And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic

وَكَذَّبُوا۟And they deniedوَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟and followedأَهْوَآءَهُمْtheir desiresوَكُلُّbut (for) everyأَمْرٍmatterمُّسْتَقِرٌّ(will be a) settlement﴿٣﴾

And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyجَآءَهُمhas come to themمِّنَofٱلْأَنۢبَآءِthe informationمَاwhereinفِيهِwhereinمُزْدَجَرٌ(is) deterrence﴿٤﴾

And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence

حِكْمَةٌۢWisdomبَٰلِغَةٌperfectفَمَاbut notتُغْنِwill availٱلنُّذُرُthe warnings﴿٥﴾

Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]

فَتَوَلَّSo turn awayعَنْهُمْfrom themيَوْمَ(The) Dayيَدْعُwill callٱلدَّاعِthe callerإِلَىٰtoشَىْءٍa thingنُّكُرٍterrible﴿٦﴾

So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding

خُشَّعًا(Will be) humbledأَبْصَٰرُهُمْtheir eyesيَخْرُجُونَthey will come forthمِنَfromٱلْأَجْدَاثِthe gravesكَأَنَّهُمْas if they (were)جَرَادٌlocustsمُّنتَشِرٌspreading﴿٧﴾

Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading

مُّهْطِعِينَRacing aheadإِلَىtowardsٱلدَّاعِthe callerيَقُولُWill sayٱلْكَٰفِرُونَthe disbelieversهَٰذَاThisيَوْمٌ(is) a Dayعَسِرٌdifficult﴿٨﴾

Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day

كَذَّبَتْDeniedقَبْلَهُمْbefore themقَوْمُ(the) peopleنُوحٍ(of) Nuhفَكَذَّبُوا۟and they deniedعَبْدَنَاOur slaveوَقَالُوا۟and saidمَجْنُونٌA madmanوَٱزْدُجِرَand he was repelled﴿٩﴾

The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled

فَدَعَاSo he calledرَبَّهُۥٓhis LordأَنِّىI amمَغْلُوبٌone overpoweredفَٱنتَصِرْso help﴿١٠﴾

So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help

فَفَتَحْنَآSo We openedأَبْوَٰبَ(the) gatesٱلسَّمَآءِ(of) heavenبِمَآءٍwith waterمُّنْهَمِرٍpouring down﴿١١﴾

Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down

وَفَجَّرْنَاAnd We caused to burstٱلْأَرْضَthe earthعُيُونًا(with) springsفَٱلْتَقَىso metٱلْمَآءُthe water(s)عَلَىٰٓforأَمْرٍa matterقَدْalreadyقُدِرَpredestined﴿١٢﴾

And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined

وَحَمَلْنَٰهُAnd We carried himعَلَىٰonذَاتِ(ark) made of planksأَلْوَٰحٍ(ark) made of planksوَدُسُرٍand nails﴿١٣﴾

And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails

تَجْرِىSailingبِأَعْيُنِنَاbefore Our eyesجَزَآءًa rewardلِّمَنfor (he) whoكَانَwasكُفِرَdenied﴿١٤﴾

Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied

وَلَقَدAnd certainlyتَّرَكْنَٰهَآWe left itءَايَةً(as) a Signفَهَلْso is (there)مِنanyمُّدَّكِرٍwho will receive admonition﴿١٥﴾

And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember

فَكَيْفَSo howكَانَwasعَذَابِىMy punishmentوَنُذُرِand My warnings﴿١٦﴾

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyيَسَّرْنَاWe have made easyٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranلِلذِّكْرِfor remembranceفَهَلْso is (there)مِنanyمُّدَّكِرٍwho will receive admonition﴿١٧﴾

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember

كَذَّبَتْDeniedعَادٌAadفَكَيْفَso howكَانَwasعَذَابِىMy punishmentوَنُذُرِand My warnings﴿١٨﴾

Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning

إِنَّآIndeed, Weأَرْسَلْنَا[We] sentعَلَيْهِمْupon themرِيحًاa windصَرْصَرًاfuriousفِىonيَوْمِa dayنَحْسٍ(of) misfortuneمُّسْتَمِرٍّcontinuous﴿١٩﴾

Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune

تَنزِعُPlucking outٱلنَّاسَmenكَأَنَّهُمْas if they (were)أَعْجَازُtrunksنَخْلٍ(of) date-palmsمُّنقَعِرٍuprooted﴿٢٠﴾

Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted
