54. Al-Qamar

فَكَيْفَSo howكَانَwasعَذَابِىMy punishmentوَنُذُرِand My warnings﴿٢١﴾

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyيَسَّرْنَاWe have made easyٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranلِلذِّكْرِfor remembranceفَهَلْso is (there)مِنanyمُّدَّكِرٍwho will receive admonition﴿٢٢﴾

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember

كَذَّبَتْDeniedثَمُودُThamudبِٱلنُّذُرِthe warnings﴿٢٣﴾

Thamud denied the warning

فَقَالُوٓا۟And saidأَبَشَرًاIs (it) a human beingمِّنَّاamong usوَٰحِدًاoneنَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ(that) we should follow himإِنَّآIndeed, weإِذًاthenلَّفِى(will be) surely inضَلَٰلٍerrorوَسُعُرٍand madness﴿٢٤﴾

And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness

أَءُلْقِىَHas been sentٱلذِّكْرُthe Reminderعَلَيْهِto himمِنۢfromبَيْنِنَاamong usبَلْNayهُوَheكَذَّابٌ(is) a liarأَشِرٌinsolent﴿٢٥﴾

Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar

سَيَعْلَمُونَThey will knowغَدًاtomorrowمَّنِwhoٱلْكَذَّابُ(is) the liarٱلْأَشِرُthe insolent one﴿٢٦﴾

They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar

إِنَّاIndeed, Weمُرْسِلُوا۟(are) sendingٱلنَّاقَةِthe she-camelفِتْنَةً(as) a trialلَّهُمْfor themفَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْso watch themوَٱصْطَبِرْand be patient﴿٢٧﴾

Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient

وَنَبِّئْهُمْAnd inform themأَنَّthatٱلْمَآءَthe waterقِسْمَةٌۢ(is) to be sharedبَيْنَهُمْbetween themكُلُّeachشِرْبٍdrinkمُّحْتَضَرٌattended﴿٢٨﴾

And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]

فَنَادَوْا۟But they calledصَاحِبَهُمْtheir companionفَتَعَاطَىٰand he tookفَعَقَرَand hamstrung﴿٢٩﴾

But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her]

فَكَيْفَSo howكَانَwasعَذَابِىMy punishmentوَنُذُرِand My warnings﴿٣٠﴾

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning

إِنَّآIndeed, Weأَرْسَلْنَا[We] sentعَلَيْهِمْupon themصَيْحَةًthunderous blastوَٰحِدَةًsingleفَكَانُوا۟and they becameكَهَشِيمِlike dry twig fragmentsٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ(used by) a fence builder﴿٣١﴾

Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyيَسَّرْنَاWe have made easyٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranلِلذِّكْرِfor remembranceفَهَلْso is (there)مِنanyمُّدَّكِرٍwho will receive admonition﴿٣٢﴾

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember

كَذَّبَتْDeniedقَوْمُ(the) peopleلُوطٍۭ(of) Lutبِٱلنُّذُرِthe warnings﴿٣٣﴾

The people of Lot denied the warning

إِنَّآIndeed, Weأَرْسَلْنَا[We] sentعَلَيْهِمْupon themحَاصِبًاa storm of stonesإِلَّآexceptءَالَ(the) familyلُوطٍ(of) LutنَّجَّيْنَٰهُمWe saved themبِسَحَرٍby dawn﴿٣٤﴾

Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn

نِّعْمَةً(As) a favorمِّنْfromعِندِنَاUsكَذَٰلِكَThusنَجْزِىWe rewardمَن(one) whoشَكَرَ(is) grateful﴿٣٥﴾

As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyأَنذَرَهُمhe warned themبَطْشَتَنَا(of) Our seizureفَتَمَارَوْا۟but they disputedبِٱلنُّذُرِthe warnings﴿٣٦﴾

And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyرَٰوَدُوهُthey demanded from himعَنthey demanded from himضَيْفِهِۦhis guestsفَطَمَسْنَآso We blindedأَعْيُنَهُمْtheir eyesفَذُوقُوا۟So tasteعَذَابِىMy punishmentوَنُذُرِand My warnings﴿٣٧﴾

And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyصَبَّحَهُمseized them in the morningبُكْرَةًearlyعَذَابٌa punishmentمُّسْتَقِرٌّabiding﴿٣٨﴾

And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment

فَذُوقُوا۟So tasteعَذَابِىMy punishmentوَنُذُرِand My warnings﴿٣٩﴾

So taste My punishment and warning

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyيَسَّرْنَاWe have made easyٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranلِلذِّكْرِfor remembranceفَهَلْso is (there)مِنanyمُّدَّكِرٍwho will receive admonition﴿٤٠﴾

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember
