26. Ash-Shu'ara

أَوْفُوا۟Give fullٱلْكَيْلَmeasureوَلَاand (do) notتَكُونُوا۟beمِنَofٱلْمُخْسِرِينَthose who cause loss﴿١٨١﴾

Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss

وَزِنُوا۟And weighبِٱلْقِسْطَاسِwith a balanceٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ[the] even﴿١٨٢﴾

And weigh with an even balance

وَلَاAnd (do) notتَبْخَسُوا۟depriveٱلنَّاسَpeopleأَشْيَآءَهُمْ(of) their thingsوَلَاand (do) notتَعْثَوْا۟commit evilفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthمُفْسِدِينَspreading corruption﴿١٨٣﴾

And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption

وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱلَّذِىthe One Whoخَلَقَكُمْcreated youوَٱلْجِبِلَّةَand the generationsٱلْأَوَّلِينَthe former﴿١٨٤﴾

And fear He who created you and the former creation

قَالُوٓا۟They saidإِنَّمَآOnlyأَنتَyouمِنَ(are) ofٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَthose bewitched﴿١٨٥﴾

They said, "You are only of those affected by magic

وَمَآAnd notأَنتَyouإِلَّا(are) exceptبَشَرٌa manمِّثْلُنَاlike usوَإِنand indeedنَّظُنُّكَwe think youلَمِنَsurely (are) ofٱلْكَٰذِبِينَthe liars﴿١٨٦﴾

You are but a man like ourselves, and indeed, we think you are among the liars

فَأَسْقِطْThen cause to fallعَلَيْنَاupon usكِسَفًاfragmentsمِّنَofٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyإِنifكُنتَyou areمِنَofٱلصَّٰدِقِينَthe truthful﴿١٨٧﴾

So cause to fall upon us fragments of the sky, if you should be of the truthful

قَالَHe saidرَبِّىٓMy Lordأَعْلَمُknows bestبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do﴿١٨٨﴾

He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do

فَكَذَّبُوهُBut they denied himفَأَخَذَهُمْso seized themعَذَابُ(the) punishmentيَوْمِ(of the) dayٱلظُّلَّةِ(of) the shadowإِنَّهُۥIndeed, itكَانَwasعَذَابَ(the) punishmentيَوْمٍ(of) a DayعَظِيمٍGreat﴿١٨٩﴾

And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day

إِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَءَايَةًsurely, is a signوَمَاbut notكَانَareأَكْثَرُهُمmost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers﴿١٩٠﴾

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers

وَإِنَّAnd indeedرَبَّكَyour Lordلَهُوَsurely, Heٱلْعَزِيزُ(is) the All-Mightyٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful﴿١٩١﴾

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful

وَإِنَّهُۥAnd indeed, itلَتَنزِيلُsurely, is a Revelationرَبِّ(of the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds﴿١٩٢﴾

And indeed, the Qur'an is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds

نَزَلَHas brought it downبِهِHas brought it downٱلرُّوحُthe Spiritٱلْأَمِينُ[the] Trustworthy﴿١٩٣﴾

The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down

عَلَىٰUponقَلْبِكَyour heartلِتَكُونَthat you may beمِنَofٱلْمُنذِرِينَthe warners﴿١٩٤﴾

Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners

بِلِسَانٍIn languageعَرَبِىٍّArabicمُّبِينٍclear﴿١٩٥﴾

In a clear Arabic language

وَإِنَّهُۥAnd indeed, itلَفِىsurely, (is) inزُبُرِ(the) Scripturesٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)﴿١٩٦﴾

And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples

أَوَلَمْIs it notيَكُنIs it notلَّهُمْto themءَايَةًa signأَنthatيَعْلَمَهُۥknow itعُلَمَٰٓؤُا۟(the) scholarsبَنِىٓ(of the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israel﴿١٩٧﴾

And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel

وَلَوْAnd ifنَزَّلْنَٰهُWe (had) revealed itعَلَىٰtoبَعْضِanyٱلْأَعْجَمِينَ(of) the non-Arabs﴿١٩٨﴾

And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners

فَقَرَأَهُۥAnd he (had) recited itعَلَيْهِمto themمَّاnotكَانُوا۟they wouldبِهِۦin itمُؤْمِنِينَ(be) believers﴿١٩٩﴾

And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it

كَذَٰلِكَThusسَلَكْنَٰهُWe have inserted itفِىintoقُلُوبِ(the) heartsٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ(of) the criminals﴿٢٠٠﴾

Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals
