83. Al-Mutaffifin

وَيْلٌWoeلِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَto those who give less﴿١﴾

Woe to those who give less [than due]

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoإِذَاwhenٱكْتَالُوا۟they take a measureعَلَىfromٱلنَّاسِthe peopleيَسْتَوْفُونَthey take in full﴿٢﴾

Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full

وَإِذَاBut whenكَالُوهُمْthey give by measure (to) themأَوorوَّزَنُوهُمْthey weigh (for) themيُخْسِرُونَthey give less﴿٣﴾

But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss

أَلَاDo notيَظُنُّthinkأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseأَنَّهُمthat theyمَّبْعُوثُونَ(will be) resurrected﴿٤﴾

Do they not think that they will be resurrected

لِيَوْمٍFor a DayعَظِيمٍGreat﴿٥﴾

For a tremendous Day

يَوْمَ(The) Dayيَقُومُwill standٱلنَّاسُmankindلِرَبِّbefore (the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds﴿٦﴾

The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds

كَلَّآNayإِنَّIndeedكِتَٰبَ(the) recordٱلْفُجَّارِ(of) the wickedلَفِى(is) surely inسِجِّينٍSijjin﴿٧﴾

No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen

وَمَآAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَcan make you knowمَاwhatسِجِّينٌ(is) Sijjin﴿٨﴾

And what can make you know what is sijjeen

كِتَٰبٌA bookمَّرْقُومٌwritten﴿٩﴾

It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed

وَيْلٌWoeيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَto the deniers﴿١٠﴾

Woe, that Day, to the deniers

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيُكَذِّبُونَdenyبِيَوْمِ(the) Dayٱلدِّينِ(of) the Judgment﴿١١﴾

Who deny the Day of Recompense

وَمَاAnd notيُكَذِّبُcan denyبِهِۦٓ[of] itإِلَّاexceptكُلُّeveryمُعْتَدٍtransgressorأَثِيمٍsinful﴿١٢﴾

And none deny it except every sinful transgressor

إِذَاWhenتُتْلَىٰare recitedعَلَيْهِto himءَايَٰتُنَاOur Versesقَالَhe saysأَسَٰطِيرُStoriesٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)﴿١٣﴾

When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples

كَلَّاNayبَلْButرَانَ(the) stain has coveredعَلَىٰ[over]قُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsمَّا(for) whatكَانُوا۟they used toيَكْسِبُونَearn﴿١٤﴾

No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning

كَلَّآNayإِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyعَنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir Lordيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayلَّمَحْجُوبُونَsurely will be partitioned﴿١٥﴾

No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned

ثُمَّThenإِنَّهُمْindeed, theyلَصَالُوا۟(surely) will burnٱلْجَحِيمِ(in) the Hellfire﴿١٦﴾

Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire

ثُمَّThenيُقَالُit will be saidهَٰذَاThisٱلَّذِى(is) whatكُنتُمyou used toبِهِۦ[of it]تُكَذِّبُونَdeny﴿١٧﴾

Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny

كَلَّآNayإِنَّIndeedكِتَٰبَ(the) recordٱلْأَبْرَارِ(of) the righteousلَفِى(will be) surely inعِلِّيِّينَIlliyin﴿١٨﴾

No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun

وَمَآAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَcan make you knowمَاwhatعِلِّيُّونَ(is) Illiyun﴿١٩﴾

And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun

كِتَٰبٌA bookمَّرْقُومٌwritten﴿٢٠﴾

It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed
