71. Nuh

إِنَّآIndeed, Weأَرْسَلْنَا[We] sentنُوحًاNuhإِلَىٰtoقَوْمِهِۦٓhis peopleأَنْthatأَنذِرْWarnقَوْمَكَyour peopleمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]يَأْتِيَهُمْcomes to themعَذَابٌa punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful﴿١﴾

Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment

قَالَHe saidيَٰقَوْمِO my peopleإِنِّىIndeed, I amلَكُمْto youنَذِيرٌa warnerمُّبِينٌclear﴿٢﴾

He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner

أَنِThatٱعْبُدُوا۟WorshipٱللَّهَAllahوَٱتَّقُوهُand fear Himوَأَطِيعُونِand obey me﴿٣﴾

[Saying], 'Worship Allah, fear Him and obey me

يَغْفِرْHe will forgiveلَكُمfor youمِّن[of]ذُنُوبِكُمْyour sinsوَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْand give you respiteإِلَىٰٓforأَجَلٍa termمُّسَمًّىspecifiedإِنَّIndeedأَجَلَ(the) termٱللَّهِ(of) Allahإِذَاwhenجَآءَit comesلَاnotيُؤَخَّرُis delayedلَوْifكُنتُمْyouتَعْلَمُونَknow﴿٤﴾

Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew

قَالَHe saidرَبِّMy LordإِنِّىIndeed, Iدَعَوْتُinvitedقَوْمِىmy peopleلَيْلًاnightوَنَهَارًاand day﴿٥﴾

He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day

فَلَمْBut notيَزِدْهُمْincreased themدُعَآءِىٓmy invitationإِلَّاexceptفِرَارًا(in) flight﴿٦﴾

But my invitation increased them not except in flight

وَإِنِّىAnd indeed, Iكُلَّمَاevery timeدَعَوْتُهُمْI invited themلِتَغْفِرَthat You may forgiveلَهُمْthemجَعَلُوٓا۟they putأَصَٰبِعَهُمْtheir fingersفِىٓinءَاذَانِهِمْtheir earsوَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟and covered themselvesثِيَابَهُمْ(with) their garmentsوَأَصَرُّوا۟and persistedوَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟and were arrogantٱسْتِكْبَارًا(with) pride﴿٧﴾

And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance

ثُمَّThenإِنِّىindeed, Iدَعَوْتُهُمْinvited themجِهَارًاpublicly﴿٨﴾

Then I invited them publicly

ثُمَّThenإِنِّىٓindeed, Iأَعْلَنتُannouncedلَهُمْto themوَأَسْرَرْتُand I confidedلَهُمْto themإِسْرَارًاsecretly﴿٩﴾

Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly

فَقُلْتُThen I saidٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟Ask forgivenessرَبَّكُمْ(from) your LordإِنَّهُۥIndeed, HeكَانَisغَفَّارًاOft-Forgiving﴿١٠﴾

And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver

يُرْسِلِHe will send downٱلسَّمَآءَ(rain from) the skyعَلَيْكُمupon youمِّدْرَارًا(in) abundance﴿١١﴾

He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers

وَيُمْدِدْكُمAnd provide youبِأَمْوَٰلٍwith wealthوَبَنِينَand childrenوَيَجْعَلand makeلَّكُمْfor youجَنَّٰتٍgardensوَيَجْعَلand makeلَّكُمْfor youأَنْهَٰرًاrivers﴿١٢﴾

And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers

مَّاWhatلَكُمْ(is) for youلَاnotتَرْجُونَyou attributeلِلَّهِto Allahوَقَارًاgrandeur﴿١٣﴾

What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur

وَقَدْAnd indeedخَلَقَكُمْHe created youأَطْوَارًا(in) stages﴿١٤﴾

While He has created you in stages

أَلَمْDo notتَرَوْا۟you seeكَيْفَhowخَلَقَdid createٱللَّهُAllahسَبْعَ(the) sevenسَمَٰوَٰتٍheavensطِبَاقًا(in) layers﴿١٥﴾

Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers

وَجَعَلَAnd madeٱلْقَمَرَthe moonفِيهِنَّthereinنُورًاa lightوَجَعَلَand madeٱلشَّمْسَthe sunسِرَاجًاa lamp﴿١٦﴾

And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp

وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahأَنۢبَتَكُمhas caused you to growمِّنَfromٱلْأَرْضِthe earthنَبَاتًا(as) a growth﴿١٧﴾

And Allah has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth

ثُمَّThenيُعِيدُكُمْHe will return youفِيهَاinto itوَيُخْرِجُكُمْand bring you forthإِخْرَاجًا(a new) bringing forth﴿١٨﴾

Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction

وَٱللَّهُAnd Allahجَعَلَmadeلَكُمُfor youٱلْأَرْضَthe earthبِسَاطًاan expanse﴿١٩﴾

And Allah has made for you the earth an expanse

لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟That you may go alongمِنْهَاthereinسُبُلًا(in) pathsفِجَاجًاwide﴿٢٠﴾

That you may follow therein roads of passage
