44. Ad-Dukhan

وَإِنAnd ifلَّمْnotتُؤْمِنُوا۟you believeلِىmeفَٱعْتَزِلُونِthen leave me alone﴿٢١﴾

But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone

فَدَعَاSo he calledرَبَّهُۥٓhis LordأَنَّThatهَٰٓؤُلَآءِtheseقَوْمٌ(are) a peopleمُّجْرِمُونَcriminals﴿٢٢﴾

And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people

فَأَسْرِThen "Set outبِعِبَادِىwith My slavesلَيْلًا(by) nightإِنَّكُمIndeed, youمُّتَّبَعُونَ(will be) followed﴿٢٣﴾

[Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued

وَٱتْرُكِAnd leaveٱلْبَحْرَthe seaرَهْوًاat restإِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyجُندٌ(are) an armyمُّغْرَقُونَ(to be) drowned﴿٢٤﴾

And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned

كَمْHow manyتَرَكُوا۟(did) they leaveمِنofجَنَّٰتٍgardensوَعُيُونٍand springs﴿٢٥﴾

How much they left behind of gardens and springs

وَزُرُوعٍAnd cornfieldsوَمَقَامٍand placesكَرِيمٍnoble﴿٢٦﴾

And crops and noble sites

وَنَعْمَةٍAnd pleasant thingsكَانُوا۟they used toفِيهَاthereinفَٰكِهِينَtake delight﴿٢٧﴾

And comfort wherein they were amused

كَذَٰلِكَThusوَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَاAnd We made it (an) inherit(ance)قَوْمًا(for) a peopleءَاخَرِينَanother﴿٢٨﴾

Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people

فَمَاAnd notبَكَتْweptعَلَيْهِمُfor themٱلسَّمَآءُthe heavenوَٱلْأَرْضُand the earthوَمَاand notكَانُوا۟they wereمُنظَرِينَgiven respite﴿٢٩﴾

And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyنَجَّيْنَاWe savedبَنِىٓ(the) Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(the) Children of Israelمِنَfromٱلْعَذَابِthe punishmentٱلْمُهِينِthe humiliating﴿٣٠﴾

And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment

مِنFromفِرْعَوْنَFiraunإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heكَانَwasعَالِيًاarrogantمِّنَamongٱلْمُسْرِفِينَthe transgressors﴿٣١﴾

From Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors

وَلَقَدِAnd certainlyٱخْتَرْنَٰهُمْWe chose themعَلَىٰbyعِلْمٍknowledgeعَلَىoverٱلْعَٰلَمِينَthe worlds﴿٣٢﴾

And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمAnd We gave themمِّنَofٱلْءَايَٰتِthe Signsمَاthatفِيهِin itبَلَٰٓؤٌا۟(was) a trialمُّبِينٌclear﴿٣٣﴾

And We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial

إِنَّIndeedهَٰٓؤُلَآءِtheseلَيَقُولُونَsurely, they say﴿٣٤﴾

Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying

إِنْNotهِىَitإِلَّا(is) butمَوْتَتُنَاour deathٱلْأُولَىٰthe firstوَمَاand notنَحْنُweبِمُنشَرِينَ(will be) raised again﴿٣٥﴾

There is not but our first death, and we will not be resurrected

فَأْتُوا۟Then bringبِـَٔابَآئِنَآour forefathersإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَtruthful﴿٣٦﴾

Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful

أَهُمْAre theyخَيْرٌbetterأَمْorقَوْمُ(the) peopleتُبَّعٍ(of) Tubbaوَٱلَّذِينَand thoseمِنbefore themقَبْلِهِمْbefore themأَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْWe destroyed themإِنَّهُمْindeed, theyكَانُوا۟wereمُجْرِمِينَcriminals﴿٣٧﴾

Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals

وَمَاAnd notخَلَقْنَاWe createdٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضَand the earthوَمَاand whateverبَيْنَهُمَا(is) between themلَٰعِبِينَ(in) play﴿٣٨﴾

And We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play

مَاNotخَلَقْنَٰهُمَآWe created both of themإِلَّاbutبِٱلْحَقِّin [the] truthوَلَٰكِنَّbutأَكْثَرَهُمْmost of themلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَknow﴿٣٩﴾

We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know

إِنَّIndeedيَوْمَ(the) Day of Judgmentٱلْفَصْلِ(the) Day of Judgmentمِيقَٰتُهُمْ(is) an appointed term for themأَجْمَعِينَall﴿٤٠﴾

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all
