44. Ad-Dukhan

حمٓHa Meem﴿١﴾

Ha, Meem

وَٱلْكِتَٰبِBy the Bookٱلْمُبِينِthe clear﴿٢﴾

By the clear Book

إِنَّآIndeed, Weأَنزَلْنَٰهُrevealed itفِىinلَيْلَةٍa NightمُّبَٰرَكَةٍBlessedإِنَّاIndeed, Weكُنَّا[We] areمُنذِرِينَ(ever) warning﴿٣﴾

Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]

فِيهَاThereinيُفْرَقُis made distinctكُلُّeveryأَمْرٍaffairحَكِيمٍwise﴿٤﴾

On that night is made distinct every precise matter

أَمْرًاA commandمِّنْfromعِندِنَآUsإِنَّاIndeed, Weكُنَّا[We] areمُرْسِلِينَ(ever) sending﴿٥﴾

[Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger]

رَحْمَةًAs Mercyمِّنfromرَّبِّكَyour LordإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heهُوَ[He]ٱلسَّمِيعُ(is) the All-Hearerٱلْعَلِيمُthe All-Knower﴿٦﴾

As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing

رَبِّLordٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَمَاand whateverبَيْنَهُمَآ(is) between both of themإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّوقِنِينَcertain﴿٧﴾

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain

لَآ(There is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimيُحْىِۦHe gives lifeوَيُمِيتُand causes deathرَبُّكُمْyour Lordوَرَبُّand (the) Lordءَابَآئِكُمُ(of) your fathersٱلْأَوَّلِينَthe former﴿٨﴾

There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers

بَلْNayهُمْtheyفِى(are) inشَكٍّdoubt يَلْعَبُونَplaying﴿٩﴾

But they are in doubt, amusing themselves

فَٱرْتَقِبْThen watchيَوْمَ(for the) Dayتَأْتِى(when) will bringٱلسَّمَآءُthe skyبِدُخَانٍsmokeمُّبِينٍvisible﴿١٠﴾

Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke

يَغْشَىEnvelopingٱلنَّاسَthe peopleهَٰذَاThisعَذَابٌ(will be) a punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful﴿١١﴾

Covering the people; this is a painful torment

رَّبَّنَاOur LordٱكْشِفْRemoveعَنَّاfrom usٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentإِنَّاindeed, weمُؤْمِنُونَ(are) believers﴿١٢﴾

[They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers

أَنَّىٰHow canلَهُمُ(there be) for themٱلذِّكْرَىٰthe reminderوَقَدْwhen verilyجَآءَهُمْhad come to themرَسُولٌa Messengerمُّبِينٌclear﴿١٣﴾

How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger

ثُمَّThenتَوَلَّوْا۟they turned awayعَنْهُfrom himوَقَالُوا۟and saidمُعَلَّمٌOne taughtمَّجْنُونٌa mad man﴿١٤﴾

Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman

إِنَّاIndeed, Weكَاشِفُوا۟(will) removeٱلْعَذَابِthe punishmentقَلِيلًاa littleإِنَّكُمْindeed, youعَآئِدُونَ(will) return﴿١٥﴾

Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]

يَوْمَ(The) DayنَبْطِشُWe will seizeٱلْبَطْشَةَ(with) the seizureٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓthe greatestإِنَّاindeed, Weمُنتَقِمُونَ(will) take retribution﴿١٦﴾

The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyفَتَنَّاWe triedقَبْلَهُمْbefore themقَوْمَ(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) Firaunوَجَآءَهُمْand came to themرَسُولٌa Messengerكَرِيمٌnoble﴿١٧﴾

And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger

أَنْThatأَدُّوٓا۟Deliverإِلَىَّto meعِبَادَ(the) servantsٱللَّهِ(of) AllahإِنِّىIndeed, I amلَكُمْto youرَسُولٌa Messengerأَمِينٌtrustworthy﴿١٨﴾

[Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger

وَأَنAnd thatلَّا(do) notتَعْلُوا۟exalt yourselvesعَلَىagainstٱللَّهِAllahإِنِّىٓIndeed, Iءَاتِيكُم[I] have come to youبِسُلْطَٰنٍwith an authorityمُّبِينٍclear﴿١٩﴾

And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority

وَإِنِّىAnd indeed, Iعُذْتُ[I] seek refugeبِرَبِّىwith my Lordوَرَبِّكُمْand your Lordأَنlestتَرْجُمُونِyou stone me﴿٢٠﴾

And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me
