26. Ash-Shu'ara

فَفَرَرْتُSo I fledمِنكُمْfrom youلَمَّاwhenخِفْتُكُمْI feared youفَوَهَبَBut grantedلِىto meرَبِّىmy Lordحُكْمًاjudgmentوَجَعَلَنِىand made meمِنَofٱلْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers﴿٢١﴾

So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and prophethood and appointed me [as one] of the messengers

وَتِلْكَAnd thisنِعْمَةٌ(is the) favorتَمُنُّهَاwith which you reproachعَلَىَّ[on] meأَنْthatعَبَّدتَّyou have enslavedبَنِىٓ(the) Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(the) Children of Israel﴿٢٢﴾

And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel

قَالَFiraun saidفِرْعَوْنُFiraun saidوَمَاAnd whatرَبُّ(is the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds﴿٢٣﴾

Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds

قَالَHe saidرَبُّLordٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَمَاand whateverبَيْنَهُمَآ(is) between themإِنifكُنتُمyou (should) beمُّوقِنِينَconvinced﴿٢٤﴾

[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced

قَالَHe saidلِمَنْto thoseحَوْلَهُۥٓaround himأَلَاDo notتَسْتَمِعُونَyou hear﴿٢٥﴾

[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear

قَالَHe saidرَبُّكُمْYour Lordوَرَبُّand (the) Lordءَابَآئِكُمُ(of) your forefathersٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) your forefathers﴿٢٦﴾

[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers

قَالَHe saidإِنَّIndeedرَسُولَكُمُyour Messengerٱلَّذِىٓwhoأُرْسِلَhas been sentإِلَيْكُمْto youلَمَجْنُونٌ(is) surely mad﴿٢٧﴾

[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad

قَالَHe saidرَبُّLordٱلْمَشْرِقِ(of) the eastوَٱلْمَغْرِبِand the westوَمَاand whateverبَيْنَهُمَآ(is) between themإِنifكُنتُمْyou wereتَعْقِلُونَ(to) reason﴿٢٨﴾

[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason

قَالَHe saidلَئِنِIfٱتَّخَذْتَyou takeإِلَٰهًاa godغَيْرِىother than meلَأَجْعَلَنَّكَI will surely make youمِنَamongٱلْمَسْجُونِينَthose imprisoned﴿٢٩﴾

[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned

قَالَHe saidأَوَلَوْEven ifجِئْتُكَI bring youبِشَىْءٍsomethingمُّبِينٍmanifest﴿٣٠﴾

[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you proof manifest

قَالَHe saidفَأْتِThen bringبِهِۦٓitإِنifكُنتَyou areمِنَofٱلصَّٰدِقِينَthe truthful﴿٣١﴾

[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful

فَأَلْقَىٰSo he threwعَصَاهُhis staffفَإِذَاand beholdهِىَItثُعْبَانٌ(was) a serpentمُّبِينٌmanifest﴿٣٢﴾

So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest

وَنَزَعَAnd he drew outيَدَهُۥhis handفَإِذَاand beholdهِىَItبَيْضَآءُ(was) whiteلِلنَّٰظِرِينَfor the observers﴿٣٣﴾

And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers

قَالَHe saidلِلْمَلَإِto the chiefsحَوْلَهُۥٓaround himإِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisلَسَٰحِرٌ(is) surely a magicianعَلِيمٌlearned﴿٣٤﴾

[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician

يُرِيدُHe wantsأَنtoيُخْرِجَكُمdrive you outمِّنْfromأَرْضِكُمyour landبِسِحْرِهِۦby his magicفَمَاذَاso whatتَأْمُرُونَ(do) you advise﴿٣٥﴾

He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise

قَالُوٓا۟They saidأَرْجِهْPostpone himوَأَخَاهُand his brotherوَٱبْعَثْand sendفِىinٱلْمَدَآئِنِthe citiesحَٰشِرِينَgatherers ﴿٣٦﴾

They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers

يَأْتُوكَThey (will) bring to youبِكُلِّeveryسَحَّارٍmagicianعَلِيمٍlearned﴿٣٧﴾

Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician

فَجُمِعَSo were assembledٱلسَّحَرَةُthe magiciansلِمِيقَٰتِfor (the) appointmentيَوْمٍ(on) a dayمَّعْلُومٍwell-known﴿٣٨﴾

So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day

وَقِيلَAnd it was saidلِلنَّاسِto the peopleهَلْWillأَنتُمyouمُّجْتَمِعُونَassemble﴿٣٩﴾

And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate

لَعَلَّنَاThat we mayنَتَّبِعُfollowٱلسَّحَرَةَthe magiciansإِنifكَانُوا۟they areهُمُthey areٱلْغَٰلِبِينَthe victorious﴿٤٠﴾

That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant
