37. As-Saffat

لِمِثْلِFor (the) likeهَٰذَا(of) thisفَلْيَعْمَلِlet workٱلْعَٰمِلُونَthe workers﴿٦١﴾

For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work

أَذَٰلِكَIs thatخَيْرٌbetterنُّزُلًا(as) hospitalityأَمْorشَجَرَةُ(the) treeٱلزَّقُّومِ(of) Zaqqum﴿٦٢﴾

Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum

إِنَّاIndeed, Weجَعَلْنَٰهَا[We] have made itفِتْنَةًa trialلِّلظَّٰلِمِينَfor the wrongdoers﴿٦٣﴾

Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers

إِنَّهَاIndeed, itشَجَرَةٌ(is) a treeتَخْرُجُthat growsفِىٓinأَصْلِ(the) bottomٱلْجَحِيمِ(of) the Hellfire﴿٦٤﴾

Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire

طَلْعُهَاIts emerging fruitكَأَنَّهُۥ(is) as if itرُءُوسُ(was) headsٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ(of) the devils﴿٦٥﴾

Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils

فَإِنَّهُمْAnd indeed, theyلَءَاكِلُونَ(will) surely eatمِنْهَاfrom itفَمَالِـُٔونَand fillمِنْهَاwith itٱلْبُطُونَ(their) bellies﴿٦٦﴾

And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies

ثُمَّThenإِنَّindeedلَهُمْfor themعَلَيْهَاin itلَشَوْبًا(is) a mixtureمِّنْofحَمِيمٍboiling water﴿٦٧﴾

Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water

ثُمَّThenإِنَّindeedمَرْجِعَهُمْtheir returnلَإِلَى(will) surely be toٱلْجَحِيمِthe Hellfire﴿٦٨﴾

Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire

إِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyأَلْفَوْا۟foundءَابَآءَهُمْtheir fathersضَآلِّينَastray﴿٦٩﴾

Indeed they found their fathers astray

فَهُمْSo theyعَلَىٰٓonءَاثَٰرِهِمْtheir footstepsيُهْرَعُونَthey hastened﴿٧٠﴾

So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps

وَلَقَدْAnd verilyضَلَّwent astrayقَبْلَهُمْbefore themأَكْثَرُmostٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)﴿٧١﴾

And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples

وَلَقَدْAnd verilyأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentفِيهِمamong themمُّنذِرِينَwarners﴿٧٢﴾

And We had already sent among them warners

فَٱنظُرْThen seeكَيْفَhowكَانَwasعَٰقِبَةُ(the) endٱلْمُنذَرِينَ(of) those who were warned﴿٧٣﴾

Then look how was the end of those who were warned

إِلَّاExceptعِبَادَ(the) slavesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahٱلْمُخْلَصِينَthe chosen ones﴿٧٤﴾

But not the chosen servants of Allah

وَلَقَدْAnd verilyنَادَىٰنَاcalled UsنُوحٌNuhفَلَنِعْمَand Bestٱلْمُجِيبُونَ(are We as) Responders﴿٧٥﴾

And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders

وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُAnd We saved himوَأَهْلَهُۥand his familyمِنَfromٱلْكَرْبِthe distressٱلْعَظِيمِthe great﴿٧٦﴾

And We saved him and his family from the great affliction

وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We madeذُرِّيَّتَهُۥhis offspringهُمُ[they]ٱلْبَاقِينَthe survivors﴿٧٧﴾

And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]

وَتَرَكْنَاAnd We leftعَلَيْهِfor himفِىamongٱلْءَاخِرِينَthe later generations﴿٧٨﴾

And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations

سَلَٰمٌPeace beعَلَىٰuponنُوحٍNuhفِىamongٱلْعَٰلَمِينَthe worlds﴿٧٩﴾

Peace upon Noah among the worlds

إِنَّاIndeed, Weكَذَٰلِكَthusنَجْزِى[We] rewardٱلْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers﴿٨٠﴾

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good
