9. At-Tawbah

وَلَاAnd notيُنفِقُونَthey spendنَفَقَةًany spendingصَغِيرَةًsmallوَلَاand notكَبِيرَةًbigوَلَاand notيَقْطَعُونَthey crossوَادِيًاa valleyإِلَّاbutكُتِبَis recordedلَهُمْfor themلِيَجْزِيَهُمُthat Allah may reward themٱللَّهُthat Allah may reward themأَحْسَنَthe bestمَا(of) whatكَانُوا۟they used (to)يَعْمَلُونَdo﴿١٢١﴾

Nor do they spend an expenditure, small or large, or cross a valley but that it is registered for them that Allah may reward them for the best of what they were doing

وَمَاAnd notكَانَisٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ(for) the believersلِيَنفِرُوا۟that they go forthكَآفَّةًall togetherفَلَوْلَاSo if notنَفَرَgo forthمِنfromكُلِّeveryفِرْقَةٍgroupمِّنْهُمْamong themطَآئِفَةٌa partyلِّيَتَفَقَّهُوا۟that they may obtain understandingفِىinٱلدِّينِthe religionوَلِيُنذِرُوا۟and that they may warnقَوْمَهُمْtheir peopleإِذَاwhenرَجَعُوٓا۟they returnإِلَيْهِمْto themلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَحْذَرُونَbeware﴿١٢٢﴾

And it is not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. For there should separate from every division of them a group [remaining] to obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they might be cautious

يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO you who believeٱلَّذِينَO you who believeءَامَنُوا۟O you who believeقَٰتِلُوا۟Fightٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَلُونَكُم(are) close to youمِّنَofٱلْكُفَّارِthe disbelieversوَلْيَجِدُوا۟and let them findفِيكُمْin youغِلْظَةًharshnessوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟And knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahمَعَ(is) withٱلْمُتَّقِينَthose who fear (Him)﴿١٢٣﴾

O you who have believed, fight those adjacent to you of the disbelievers and let them find in you harshness. And know that Allah is with the righteous

وَإِذَاAnd wheneverمَآAnd wheneverأُنزِلَتْis revealedسُورَةٌa Surahفَمِنْهُمamong themمَّن(are some) whoيَقُولُsayأَيُّكُمْWhich of youزَادَتْهُ(has) increased [it]هَٰذِهِۦٓ(by) thisإِيمَٰنًا(in) faithفَأَمَّاAs forٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believeفَزَادَتْهُمْthen it has increased themإِيمَٰنًا(in) faithوَهُمْand theyيَسْتَبْشِرُونَrejoice﴿١٢٤﴾

And whenever a surah is revealed, there are among the hypocrites those who say, "Which of you has this increased faith?" As for those who believed, it has increased them in faith, while they are rejoicing

وَأَمَّاBut as forٱلَّذِينَthoseفِىinقُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsمَّرَضٌ(is) a diseaseفَزَادَتْهُمْ(it) increases themرِجْسًا(in) evilإِلَىٰtoرِجْسِهِمْtheir evilوَمَاتُوا۟And they dieوَهُمْwhile theyكَٰفِرُونَ(are) disbelievers﴿١٢٥﴾

But as for those in whose hearts is disease, it has [only] increased them in evil [in addition] to their evil. And they will have died while they are disbelievers

أَوَلَاDo notيَرَوْنَthey seeأَنَّهُمْthat theyيُفْتَنُونَare triedفِى[in]كُلِّeveryعَامٍyearمَّرَّةًonceأَوْorمَرَّتَيْنِtwiceثُمَّYetلَاnotيَتُوبُونَthey turn (in repentance)وَلَاand notهُمْtheyيَذَّكَّرُونَpay heed﴿١٢٦﴾

Do they not see that they are tried every year once or twice but then they do not repent nor do they remember

وَإِذَاAnd wheneverمَآAnd wheneverأُنزِلَتْis revealedسُورَةٌa Surahنَّظَرَlookبَعْضُهُمْsome of themإِلَىٰtoبَعْضٍothersهَلْDoesيَرَىٰكُمsee youمِّنْanyأَحَدٍoneثُمَّThenٱنصَرَفُوا۟they turn awayصَرَفَAllah has turned awayٱللَّهُAllah has turned awayقُلُوبَهُمtheir heartsبِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyقَوْمٌ(are) a peopleلَّاnotيَفْقَهُونَthey understand﴿١٢٧﴾

And whenever a surah is revealed, they look at each other, [saying], "Does anyone see you?" and then they dismiss themselves. Allah has dismissed their hearts because they are a people who do not understand

لَقَدْCertainlyجَآءَكُمْ(has) come to youرَسُولٌa MessengerمِّنْfromأَنفُسِكُمْyourselvesعَزِيزٌGrievousعَلَيْهِto himمَا(is) whatعَنِتُّمْyou sufferحَرِيصٌ(he is) concernedعَلَيْكُمover youبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersرَءُوفٌ(he is) kindرَّحِيمٌ(and) merciful﴿١٢٨﴾

There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful

فَإِنBut ifتَوَلَّوْا۟they turn awayفَقُلْthen sayحَسْبِىَSufficient for meٱللَّهُ(is) Allahلَآ(There is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimعَلَيْهِOn HimتَوَكَّلْتُI put my trustوَهُوَAnd Heرَبُّ(is the) Lordٱلْعَرْشِ(of) the Throneٱلْعَظِيمِthe Great﴿١٢٩﴾

But if they turn away, [O Muhammad], say, "Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne
