85. Al-Buruj

وَٱلسَّمَآءِBy the skyذَاتِcontainingٱلْبُرُوجِthe constellations﴿١﴾

By the sky containing great stars

وَٱلْيَوْمِAnd the DayٱلْمَوْعُودِPromised﴿٢﴾

And [by] the promised Day

وَشَاهِدٍAnd (the) witnessوَمَشْهُودٍand what is witnessed﴿٣﴾

And [by] the witness and what is witnessed

قُتِلَDestroyed wereأَصْحَٰبُ(the) companionsٱلْأُخْدُودِ(of) the pit﴿٤﴾

Cursed were the companions of the trench

ٱلنَّارِ(Of) the fireذَاتِfullٱلْوَقُودِ(of) the fuel﴿٥﴾

[Containing] the fire full of fuel

إِذْWhenهُمْtheyعَلَيْهَاby itقُعُودٌ(were) sitting﴿٦﴾

When they were sitting near it

وَهُمْAnd theyعَلَىٰoverمَاwhatيَفْعَلُونَthey were doingبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersشُهُودٌwitnesses﴿٧﴾

And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses

وَمَاAnd notنَقَمُوا۟they resentedمِنْهُمْ[of] themإِلَّآexceptأَنthatيُؤْمِنُوا۟they believedبِٱللَّهِin Allahٱلْعَزِيزِthe All-Mightyٱلْحَمِيدِthe Praiseworthy﴿٨﴾

And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy

ٱلَّذِىThe One Whoلَهُۥfor Himمُلْكُ(is) the dominionٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱللَّهُand Allahعَلَىٰonكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingشَهِيدٌ(is) a Witness﴿٩﴾

To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoفَتَنُوا۟persecutedٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believing menوَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِand the believing womenثُمَّthenلَمْnotيَتُوبُوا۟they repentedفَلَهُمْthen for themعَذَابُ(is the) punishmentجَهَنَّمَ(of) Hellوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابُ(is the) punishmentٱلْحَرِيقِ(of) the Burning Fire﴿١٠﴾

Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire

إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believeوَعَمِلُوا۟and doٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِthe righteous deedsلَهُمْfor themجَنَّٰتٌ(will be) Gardensتَجْرِىflowمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath itٱلْأَنْهَٰرُthe riversذَٰلِكَThatٱلْفَوْزُ(is) the successٱلْكَبِيرُthe great﴿١١﴾

Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment

إِنَّIndeedبَطْشَ(the) Gripرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordلَشَدِيدٌ(is) surely strong﴿١٢﴾

Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe

إِنَّهُۥIndeed HeهُوَHeيُبْدِئُoriginatesوَيُعِيدُand repeats﴿١٣﴾

Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats

وَهُوَAnd Heٱلْغَفُورُ(is) the Oft-Forgivingٱلْوَدُودُthe Most Loving﴿١٤﴾

And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate

ذُوOwner (of)ٱلْعَرْشِthe Throneٱلْمَجِيدُthe Glorious﴿١٥﴾

Honorable Owner of the Throne

فَعَّالٌDoerلِّمَاof whatيُرِيدُHe intends﴿١٦﴾

Effecter of what He intends

هَلْHasأَتَىٰكَcome to youحَدِيثُ(the) storyٱلْجُنُودِ(of) the hosts﴿١٧﴾

Has there reached you the story of the soldiers

فِرْعَوْنَFiraunوَثَمُودَand Thamud﴿١٨﴾

[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud

بَلِNayٱلَّذِينَThose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveفِى(are) inتَكْذِيبٍdenial﴿١٩﴾

But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial

وَٱللَّهُBut Allahمِنfromوَرَآئِهِمbehind themمُّحِيطٌۢencompasses﴿٢٠﴾

While Allah encompasses them from behind
