78. An-Naba

إِنَّIndeedجَهَنَّمَHellكَانَتْisمِرْصَادًاlying in wait﴿٢١﴾

Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait

لِّلطَّٰغِينَFor the transgressorsمَـَٔابًاa place of return﴿٢٢﴾

For the transgressors, a place of return

لَّٰبِثِينَ(They will) be remainingفِيهَآthereinأَحْقَابًا(for) ages﴿٢٣﴾

In which they will remain for ages [unending]

لَّاNotيَذُوقُونَthey will tasteفِيهَاthereinبَرْدًاcoolnessوَلَاand notشَرَابًاany drink﴿٢٤﴾

They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink

إِلَّاExceptحَمِيمًاscalding waterوَغَسَّاقًاand purulence﴿٢٥﴾

Except scalding water and [foul] purulence

جَزَآءًA recompenseوِفَاقًاappropriate﴿٢٦﴾

An appropriate recompense

إِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyكَانُوا۟wereلَاnotيَرْجُونَexpectingحِسَابًاan account﴿٢٧﴾

Indeed, they were not expecting an account

وَكَذَّبُوا۟And they deniedبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاOur Signsكِذَّابًا(with) denial﴿٢٨﴾

And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial

وَكُلَّAnd everyشَىْءٍthingأَحْصَيْنَٰهُWe have enumerated itكِتَٰبًا(in) a Book﴿٢٩﴾

But all things We have enumerated in writing

فَذُوقُوا۟So tasteفَلَنand neverنَّزِيدَكُمْWe will increase youإِلَّاexceptعَذَابًا(in) punishment﴿٣٠﴾

So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment

إِنَّIndeedلِلْمُتَّقِينَfor the righteousمَفَازًا(is) success﴿٣١﴾

Indeed, for the righteous is attainment

حَدَآئِقَGardensوَأَعْنَٰبًاand grapevines﴿٣٢﴾

Gardens and grapevines

وَكَوَاعِبَAnd splendid companionsأَتْرَابًاwell-matched﴿٣٣﴾

And full-breasted [companions] of equal age

وَكَأْسًاAnd a cupدِهَاقًاfull﴿٣٤﴾

And a full cup

لَّاNotيَسْمَعُونَthey will hearفِيهَاthereinلَغْوًاany vain talkوَلَاand notكِذَّٰبًاany falsehood﴿٣٥﴾

No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood

جَزَآءً(As) a rewardمِّنfromرَّبِّكَyour Lordعَطَآءًa giftحِسَابًا(according to) account﴿٣٦﴾

[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account

رَّبِّLordٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَمَاand whateverبَيْنَهُمَا(is) between both of themٱلرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousلَاnotيَمْلِكُونَthey have powerمِنْهُfrom Himخِطَابًا(to) address﴿٣٧﴾

[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech

يَوْمَ(The) Dayيَقُومُwill standٱلرُّوحُthe Spiritوَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُand the Angelsصَفًّا(in) rowsلَّاnotيَتَكَلَّمُونَthey will speakإِلَّاexceptمَنْ(one) who أَذِنَpermitsلَهُ[for] himٱلرَّحْمَٰنُthe Most Graciousوَقَالَand he (will) sayصَوَابًا(what is) correct﴿٣٨﴾

The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct

ذَٰلِكَThatٱلْيَوْمُ(is) the Dayٱلْحَقُّthe TrueفَمَنSo whoeverشَآءَwillsٱتَّخَذَlet him takeإِلَىٰtowardsرَبِّهِۦhis Lordمَـَٔابًاa return﴿٣٩﴾

That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return

إِنَّآIndeed Weأَنذَرْنَٰكُمْ[We] have warned youعَذَابًا(of) a punishmentقَرِيبًاnearيَوْمَ(the) Dayيَنظُرُwill seeٱلْمَرْءُthe manمَاwhatقَدَّمَتْhave sent forthيَدَاهُhis handsوَيَقُولُand will sayٱلْكَافِرُthe disbelieverيَٰلَيْتَنِىO I wishكُنتُI wereتُرَٰبًۢاdust﴿٤٠﴾

Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust
