40. Ghafir

ٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoجَعَلَmadeلَكُمُfor youٱلَّيْلَthe nightلِتَسْكُنُوا۟that you may restفِيهِin itوَٱلنَّهَارَand the dayمُبْصِرًاgiving visibilityإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahلَذُو(is) Full (of) Bountyفَضْلٍ(is) Full (of) Bountyعَلَىtoٱلنَّاسِthe peopleوَلَٰكِنَّbutأَكْثَرَmostٱلنَّاسِ(of) the peopleلَا(do) notيَشْكُرُونَgive thanks﴿٦١﴾

It is Allah who made for you the night that you may rest therein and the day giving sight. Indeed, Allah is full of bounty to the people, but most of the people are not grateful

ذَٰلِكُمُThatٱللَّهُ(is) Allahرَبُّكُمْyour Lordخَٰلِقُ(the) Creatorكُلِّ(of) allشَىْءٍthingsلَّآ(there is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimفَأَنَّىٰSo howتُؤْفَكُونَare you deluded﴿٦٢﴾

That is Allah, your Lord, Creator of all things; there is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded

كَذَٰلِكَThusيُؤْفَكُwere deludedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَانُوا۟were بِـَٔايَٰتِ(the) Signsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahيَجْحَدُونَrejecting﴿٦٣﴾

Thus were those [before you] deluded who were rejecting the signs of Allah

ٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoجَعَلَmadeلَكُمُfor youٱلْأَرْضَthe earthقَرَارًاa place of settlementوَٱلسَّمَآءَand the skyبِنَآءًa canopyوَصَوَّرَكُمْand He formed youفَأَحْسَنَand perfectedصُوَرَكُمْyour formsوَرَزَقَكُمand provided youمِّنَofٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِthe good thingsذَٰلِكُمُThatٱللَّهُ(is) Allahرَبُّكُمْyour LordفَتَبَارَكَThen blessed (is)ٱللَّهُAllahرَبُّ(the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds﴿٦٤﴾

It is Allah who made for you the earth a place of settlement and the sky a ceiling and formed you and perfected your forms and provided you with good things. That is Allah, your Lord; then blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds

هُوَHeٱلْحَىُّ(is) the Ever-Livingلَآ(there is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاbutهُوَHeفَٱدْعُوهُso call Himمُخْلِصِينَ(being) sincereلَهُto Himٱلدِّينَ(in) the religionٱلْحَمْدُAll praise (be)لِلَّهِto Allahرَبِّ(the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds﴿٦٥﴾

He is the Ever-Living; there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, [being] sincere to Him in religion. [All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds

قُلْSayإِنِّىIndeed, Iنُهِيتُ[I] have been forbiddenأَنْtoأَعْبُدَworshipٱلَّذِينَthose whomتَدْعُونَyou callمِنbesidesدُونِbesidesٱللَّهِAllahلَمَّاwhenجَآءَنِىَhave come to meٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُthe clear proofsمِنfromرَّبِّىmy Lordوَأُمِرْتُand I am commandedأَنْtoأُسْلِمَsubmitلِرَبِّto (the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds﴿٦٦﴾

Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you call upon besides Allah once the clear proofs have come to me from my Lord, and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds

هُوَHeٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoخَلَقَكُمcreated youمِّنfromتُرَابٍdustثُمَّthenمِنfromنُّطْفَةٍa semen-dropثُمَّthenمِنْfromعَلَقَةٍa clinging substanceثُمَّthenيُخْرِجُكُمْHe brings you outطِفْلًا(as) a childثُمَّthenلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟lets you reachأَشُدَّكُمْyour maturityثُمَّthenلِتَكُونُوا۟lets you becomeشُيُوخًاold وَمِنكُمand among youمَّن(is he) whoيُتَوَفَّىٰdiesمِنbefore قَبْلُbefore وَلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟and lets you reachأَجَلًاa termمُّسَمًّىspecifiedوَلَعَلَّكُمْand that you mayتَعْقِلُونَuse reason﴿٦٧﴾

It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term; and perhaps you will use reason

هُوَHeٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoيُحْىِۦgives lifeوَيُمِيتُand causes deathفَإِذَاAnd whenقَضَىٰٓHe decreesأَمْرًاa matterفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyيَقُولُHe saysلَهُۥto itكُنBeفَيَكُونُand it is﴿٦٨﴾

He it is who gives life and causes death; and when He decrees a matter, He but says to it, "Be," and it is

أَلَمْDo notتَرَyou seeإِلَى[to]ٱلَّذِينَthose whoيُجَٰدِلُونَdisputeفِىٓconcerningءَايَٰتِ(the) Signsٱللَّهِ(of) AllahأَنَّىٰHowيُصْرَفُونَthey are turned away﴿٦٩﴾

Do you not consider those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah - how are they averted

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoكَذَّبُوا۟denyبِٱلْكِتَٰبِthe Bookوَبِمَآand with whatأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentبِهِۦwith itرُسُلَنَاOur Messengersفَسَوْفَbut soonيَعْلَمُونَthey will know﴿٧٠﴾

Those who deny the Book and that with which We sent Our messengers - they are going to know

إِذِWhenٱلْأَغْلَٰلُthe iron collarsفِىٓ(will be) aroundأَعْنَٰقِهِمْtheir necksوَٱلسَّلَٰسِلُand the chainsيُسْحَبُونَthey will be dragged﴿٧١﴾

When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged

فِىInٱلْحَمِيمِthe boiling waterثُمَّthenفِىinٱلنَّارِthe Fireيُسْجَرُونَthey will be burned﴿٧٢﴾

In boiling water; then in the Fire they will be filled [with flame]

ثُمَّThenقِيلَit will be saidلَهُمْto themأَيْنَWhereمَا(is) that whichكُنتُمْyou used toتُشْرِكُونَassociate﴿٧٣﴾

Then it will be said to them, "Where is that which you used to associate [with Him in worship]

مِنOther thanدُونِOther thanٱللَّهِAllahقَالُوا۟They will sayضَلُّوا۟They have departedعَنَّاfrom usبَلNayلَّمْNotنَكُنwe used toنَّدْعُوا۟[we] callمِنbeforeقَبْلُbeforeشَيْـًٔاanythingكَذَٰلِكَThusيُضِلُّAllah lets go astrayٱللَّهُAllah lets go astrayٱلْكَٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers﴿٧٤﴾

Other than Allah?" They will say, "They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything." Thus does Allah put astray the disbelievers

ذَٰلِكُمThat wasبِمَاbecauseكُنتُمْyou used toتَفْرَحُونَrejoiceفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthبِغَيْرِwithoutٱلْحَقِّrightوَبِمَاand becauseكُنتُمْyou used toتَمْرَحُونَbe insolent﴿٧٥﴾

[The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently

ٱدْخُلُوٓا۟Enterأَبْوَٰبَ(the) gatesجَهَنَّمَ(of) Hellخَٰلِدِينَ(to) abide foreverفِيهَاin itفَبِئْسَand wretched isمَثْوَى(the) abodeٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ(of) the arrogant﴿٧٦﴾

Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant

فَٱصْبِرْSo be patientإِنَّindeedوَعْدَ(the) Promiseٱللَّهِ(of) Allahحَقٌّ(is) trueفَإِمَّاAnd whetherنُرِيَنَّكَWe show youبَعْضَsomeٱلَّذِى(of) whatنَعِدُهُمْWe have promised themأَوْorنَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَWe cause you to dieفَإِلَيْنَاthen to Usيُرْجَعُونَthey will be returned﴿٧٧﴾

So be patient, [O Muhammad]; indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned

وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyأَرْسَلْنَاWe have sentرُسُلًاMessengersمِّنbefore youقَبْلِكَbefore youمِنْهُمAmong themمَّن(are) who قَصَصْنَاWe have relatedعَلَيْكَto youوَمِنْهُمand among themمَّن(are) who لَّمْnotنَقْصُصْWe have relatedعَلَيْكَto youوَمَاAnd notكَانَisلِرَسُولٍfor any Messengerأَنthatيَأْتِىَhe bringsبِـَٔايَةٍa Signإِلَّاexceptبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ(of) AllahفَإِذَاSo whenجَآءَcomesأَمْرُ(the) Commandٱللَّهِ(of) Allahقُضِىَit will be decidedبِٱلْحَقِّin truthوَخَسِرَand will loseهُنَالِكَthereٱلْمُبْطِلُونَthe falsifiers﴿٧٨﴾

And We have already sent messengers before you. Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. And it was not for any messenger to bring a sign [or verse] except by permission of Allah. So when the command of Allah comes, it will be concluded in truth, and the falsifiers will thereupon lose [all]

ٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoجَعَلَmadeلَكُمُfor youٱلْأَنْعَٰمَthe cattleلِتَرْكَبُوا۟that you may rideمِنْهَاsome of themوَمِنْهَاand some of themتَأْكُلُونَyou eat﴿٧٩﴾

It is Allah who made for you the grazing animals upon which you ride, and some of them you eat

وَلَكُمْAnd for youفِيهَاin themمَنَٰفِعُ(are) benefitsوَلِتَبْلُغُوا۟and that you may reachعَلَيْهَاthrough themحَاجَةًa needفِى(that is) inصُدُورِكُمْyour breastsوَعَلَيْهَاand upon themوَعَلَىand uponٱلْفُلْكِthe shipsتُحْمَلُونَyou are carried﴿٨٠﴾

And for you therein are [other] benefits and that you may realize upon them a need which is in your breasts; and upon them and upon ships you are carried
