16. An-Nahl

وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoهَاجَرُوا۟emigratedفِىin (the way)ٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمِنۢafterبَعْدِafterمَا[what]ظُلِمُوا۟they were wrongedلَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمْsurely We will give them positionفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldحَسَنَةًgoodوَلَأَجْرُbut surely the rewardٱلْءَاخِرَةِ(of) the Hereafterأَكْبَرُ(is) greaterلَوْifكَانُوا۟theyيَعْلَمُونَknow﴿٤١﴾

And those who emigrated for [the cause of] Allah after they had been wronged - We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know

ٱلَّذِينَThose whoصَبَرُوا۟(are) patientوَعَلَىٰand onرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordيَتَوَكَّلُونَthey put their trust﴿٤٢﴾

[They are] those who endured patiently and upon their Lord relied

وَمَآAnd notأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentمِنbefore youقَبْلِكَbefore youإِلَّاexceptرِجَالًاmenنُّوحِىٓWe revealedإِلَيْهِمْto themفَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟so askأَهْلَ(the) peopleٱلذِّكْرِ(of) the Reminderإِنifكُنتُمْyouلَا(do) notتَعْلَمُونَknow﴿٤٣﴾

And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message if you do not know

بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِWith the clear proofsوَٱلزُّبُرِand the BooksوَأَنزَلْنَآAnd We sent downإِلَيْكَto youٱلذِّكْرَthe Remembranceلِتُبَيِّنَthat you may make clearلِلنَّاسِto the mankindمَاwhatنُزِّلَhas been sent downإِلَيْهِمْto themوَلَعَلَّهُمْand that they mayيَتَفَكَّرُونَreflect﴿٤٤﴾

[We sent them] with clear proofs and written ordinances. And We revealed to you the message that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought

أَفَأَمِنَDo then feel secureٱلَّذِينَthose whoمَكَرُوا۟plottedٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِthe evil deedsأَنthatيَخْسِفَAllah will caveٱللَّهُAllah will caveبِهِمُwith themٱلْأَرْضَthe earthأَوْorيَأْتِيَهُمُwill come to themٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentمِنْfromحَيْثُwhereلَاnotيَشْعُرُونَthey perceive﴿٤٥﴾

Then, do those who have planned evil deeds feel secure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them or that the punishment will not come upon them from where they do not perceive

أَوْOrيَأْخُذَهُمْthat He may seize themفِىinتَقَلُّبِهِمْtheir going to and froفَمَاthen notهُمtheyبِمُعْجِزِينَwill be able to escape﴿٤٦﴾

Or that He would not seize them during their [usual] activity, and they could not cause failure

أَوْOrيَأْخُذَهُمْthat He may seize themعَلَىٰwithتَخَوُّفٍa gradual wastingفَإِنَّBut indeedرَبَّكُمْyour Lordلَرَءُوفٌ(is) surely Full of KindnessرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful﴿٤٧﴾

Or that He would not seize them gradually [in a state of dread]? But indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful

أَوَلَمْHave notيَرَوْا۟they seenإِلَىٰ[towards]مَاwhatخَلَقَAllah has createdٱللَّهُAllah has createdمِنfromشَىْءٍa thingيَتَفَيَّؤُا۟Inclineظِلَٰلُهُۥtheir shadowsعَنِtoٱلْيَمِينِthe rightوَٱلشَّمَآئِلِand to the leftسُجَّدًاprostratingلِّلَّهِto Allahوَهُمْwhile theyدَٰخِرُونَ(are) humble﴿٤٨﴾

Have they not considered what things Allah has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allah, while they are humble

وَلِلَّهِAnd to Allahيَسْجُدُprostrateمَاwhateverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَمَاand whateverفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِthe earthمِنofدَآبَّةٍmoving creaturesوَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُand the Angelsوَهُمْand theyلَا(are) notيَسْتَكْبِرُونَarrogant﴿٤٩﴾

And to Allah prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of creatures, and the angels [as well], and they are not arrogant

يَخَافُونَThey fearرَبَّهُمtheir Lordمِّنabove themفَوْقِهِمْabove themوَيَفْعَلُونَand they doمَاwhatيُؤْمَرُونَthey are commanded﴿٥٠﴾

They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded

وَقَالَAnd Allah has saidٱللَّهُAnd Allah has saidلَا(Do) notتَتَّخِذُوٓا۟takeإِلَٰهَيْنِ[two] godsٱثْنَيْنِtwoإِنَّمَاonlyهُوَHeإِلَٰهٌ(is) GodوَٰحِدٌOneفَإِيَّٰىَso Me Aloneفَٱرْهَبُونِyou fear [Me]﴿٥١﴾

And Allah has said, "Do not take for yourselves two deities. He is but one God, so fear only Me

وَلَهُۥAnd to Him (belongs)مَاwhateverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَلَهُand to Himٱلدِّينُ(is due) the worshipوَاصِبًاconstantlyأَفَغَيْرَThen is it other (than)ٱللَّهِAllahتَتَّقُونَyou fear﴿٥٢﴾

And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allah that you fear

وَمَاAnd whateverبِكُمyou haveمِّنofنِّعْمَةٍfavorفَمِنَ(is) fromٱللَّهِAllahثُمَّThenإِذَاwhenمَسَّكُمُtouches youٱلضُّرُّthe adversityفَإِلَيْهِthen to Himتَجْـَٔرُونَyou cry for help﴿٥٣﴾

And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allah. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help

ثُمَّThenإِذَاwhenكَشَفَHe removesٱلضُّرَّthe adversityعَنكُمْfrom youإِذَاbeholdفَرِيقٌA groupمِّنكُمof youبِرَبِّهِمْwith their Lordيُشْرِكُونَassociate others﴿٥٤﴾

Then when He removes the adversity from you, at once a party of you associates others with their Lord

لِيَكْفُرُوا۟So as to denyبِمَآthat whichءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْWe have given themفَتَمَتَّعُوا۟Then enjoy yourselvesفَسَوْفَsoonتَعْلَمُونَyou will know﴿٥٥﴾

So they will deny what We have given them. Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know

وَيَجْعَلُونَAnd they assignلِمَاto whatلَاnotيَعْلَمُونَthey know نَصِيبًاa portionمِّمَّاof whatرَزَقْنَٰهُمْWe have provided themتَٱللَّهِBy Allahلَتُسْـَٔلُنَّsurely you will be askedعَمَّاabout whatكُنتُمْyou used (to)تَفْتَرُونَinvent﴿٥٦﴾

And they assign to what they do not know a portion of that which We have provided them. By Allah, you will surely be questioned about what you used to invent

وَيَجْعَلُونَAnd they assignلِلَّهِto AllahٱلْبَنَٰتِdaughtersسُبْحَٰنَهُۥGlory be to HimوَلَهُمAnd for themمَّا(is) whatيَشْتَهُونَthey desire﴿٥٧﴾

And they attribute to Allah daughters - exalted is He - and for them is what they desire

وَإِذَاAnd whenبُشِّرَis given good newsأَحَدُهُم(to) one of themبِٱلْأُنثَىٰof a femaleظَلَّturnsوَجْهُهُۥhis faceمُسْوَدًّاdarkوَهُوَand heكَظِيمٌsuppresses grief﴿٥٨﴾

And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief

يَتَوَٰرَىٰHe hides himselfمِنَfromٱلْقَوْمِthe peopleمِن(because) ofسُوٓءِthe evilمَاof whatبُشِّرَhe has been given good newsبِهِۦٓaboutأَيُمْسِكُهُۥShould he keep itعَلَىٰinهُونٍhumiliationأَمْorيَدُسُّهُۥbury itفِىinٱلتُّرَابِthe dustأَلَاUnquestionablyسَآءَevilمَا(is) whatيَحْكُمُونَthey decide﴿٥٩﴾

He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide

لِلَّذِينَFor those whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِٱلْءَاخِرَةِin the Hereafterمَثَلُ(is) a similitudeٱلسَّوْءِ(of) the evilوَلِلَّهِand for Allahٱلْمَثَلُ(is) the similitudeٱلْأَعْلَىٰthe HighestوَهُوَAnd Heٱلْعَزِيزُ(is) the All-MightyٱلْحَكِيمُAll-Wise﴿٦٠﴾

For those who do not believe in the Hereafter is the description of evil; and for Allah is the highest attribute. And He is Exalted in Might, the Wise
