87. Al-A'la

سَبِّحِGlorifyٱسْمَ(the) nameرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordٱلْأَعْلَىthe Most High﴿١﴾

Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High

ٱلَّذِىThe One Whoخَلَقَcreatedفَسَوَّىٰthen proportioned﴿٢﴾

Who created and proportioned

وَٱلَّذِىAnd the One Whoقَدَّرَmeasuredفَهَدَىٰthen guided﴿٣﴾

And who destined and [then] guided

وَٱلَّذِىٓAnd the One Whoأَخْرَجَbrings forthٱلْمَرْعَىٰthe pasture﴿٤﴾

And who brings out the pasture

فَجَعَلَهُۥAnd then makes itغُثَآءًstubbleأَحْوَىٰdark﴿٥﴾

And [then] makes it black stubble

سَنُقْرِئُكَWe will make you reciteفَلَاso notتَنسَىٰٓyou will forget﴿٦﴾

We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget

إِلَّاExceptمَاwhatشَآءَwillsٱللَّهُAllahإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heيَعْلَمُknowsٱلْجَهْرَthe manifestوَمَاand whatيَخْفَىٰis hidden﴿٧﴾

Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden

وَنُيَسِّرُكَAnd We will ease youلِلْيُسْرَىٰto the ease﴿٨﴾

And We will ease you toward ease

فَذَكِّرْSo remindإِنifنَّفَعَتِbenefitsٱلذِّكْرَىٰthe reminder﴿٩﴾

So remind, if the reminder should benefit

سَيَذَّكَّرُHe will pay heed مَن(one) whoيَخْشَىٰfears (Allah)﴿١٠﴾

He who fears [Allah] will be reminded

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَاAnd will avoid itٱلْأَشْقَىthe wretched one﴿١١﴾

But the wretched one will avoid it

ٱلَّذِىThe one whoيَصْلَىwill burnٱلنَّارَ(in) the Fireٱلْكُبْرَىٰ[the] great﴿١٢﴾

[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire

ثُمَّThenلَاnotيَمُوتُhe will dieفِيهَاthereinوَلَاand notيَحْيَىٰwill live﴿١٣﴾

Neither dying therein nor living

قَدْCertainlyأَفْلَحَhas succeededمَن(one) whoتَزَكَّىٰpurifies (himself)﴿١٤﴾

He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself

وَذَكَرَAnd remembersٱسْمَ(the) nameرَبِّهِۦ(of) his Lordفَصَلَّىٰand prays﴿١٥﴾

And mentions the name of his Lord and prays

بَلْNayتُؤْثِرُونَYou preferٱلْحَيَوٰةَthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the world﴿١٦﴾

But you prefer the worldly life

وَٱلْءَاخِرَةُWhile the Hereafterخَيْرٌ(is) betterوَأَبْقَىٰٓand everlasting﴿١٧﴾

While the Hereafter is better and more enduring

إِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisلَفِىsurely (is) inٱلصُّحُفِthe Scripturesٱلْأُولَىٰ[the] former﴿١٨﴾

Indeed, this is in the former scriptures

صُحُفِ(The) Scripturesإِبْرَٰهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimوَمُوسَىٰand Musa﴿١٩﴾

The scriptures of Abraham and Moses
