ٱلْحَآقَّةُThe Inevitable Reality﴿١﴾

The Inevitable Reality

مَاWhatٱلْحَآقَّةُ(is) the Inevitable Reality﴿٢﴾

What is the Inevitable Reality

وَمَآAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَwill make you knowمَاwhatٱلْحَآقَّةُ(is) the Inevitable Reality﴿٣﴾

And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality

كَذَّبَتْDeniedثَمُودُThamudوَعَادٌۢand Aadبِٱلْقَارِعَةِthe Striking Calamity﴿٤﴾

Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity

فَأَمَّاSo as forثَمُودُThamudفَأُهْلِكُوا۟they were destroyedبِٱلطَّاغِيَةِby the overpowering (blast)﴿٥﴾

So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast]

وَأَمَّاAnd as forعَادٌAadفَأُهْلِكُوا۟they were destroyedبِرِيحٍby a windصَرْصَرٍscreamingعَاتِيَةٍviolent﴿٦﴾

And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

سَخَّرَهَاWhich He imposedعَلَيْهِمْupon themسَبْعَ(for) sevenلَيَالٍnightsوَثَمَٰنِيَةَand eightأَيَّامٍdaysحُسُومًا(in) successionفَتَرَىso you would seeٱلْقَوْمَthe peopleفِيهَاthereinصَرْعَىٰfallenكَأَنَّهُمْas if they wereأَعْجَازُtrunksنَخْلٍ(of) date-palmsخَاوِيَةٍhollow﴿٧﴾

Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees

فَهَلْThen doتَرَىٰyou seeلَهُمof themمِّنۢanyبَاقِيَةٍremains﴿٨﴾

Then do you see of them any remains

وَجَآءَAnd cameفِرْعَوْنُFiraunوَمَنand (those)قَبْلَهُۥbefore himوَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَٰتُand the overturned citiesبِٱلْخَاطِئَةِwith sin﴿٩﴾

And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin

فَعَصَوْا۟And they disobeyedرَسُولَ(the) Messengerرَبِّهِمْ(of) their Lordفَأَخَذَهُمْso He seized themأَخْذَةً(with) a seizureرَّابِيَةًexceeding﴿١٠﴾

And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]

إِنَّاIndeed, Weلَمَّاwhenطَغَاoverflowedٱلْمَآءُthe waterحَمَلْنَٰكُمْWe carried youفِىinٱلْجَارِيَةِthe sailing (ship)﴿١١﴾

Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship

لِنَجْعَلَهَاThat We might make itلَكُمْfor youتَذْكِرَةًa reminderوَتَعِيَهَآand would be conscious of itأُذُنٌan earوَٰعِيَةٌconscious﴿١٢﴾

That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it

فَإِذَاThen whenنُفِخَis blownفِىinٱلصُّورِthe trumpet نَفْخَةٌa blastوَٰحِدَةٌsingle﴿١٣﴾

Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

وَحُمِلَتِAnd are liftedٱلْأَرْضُthe earthوَٱلْجِبَالُand the mountainsفَدُكَّتَاand crushedدَكَّةً(with) a crushingوَٰحِدَةًsingle﴿١٤﴾

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow

فَيَوْمَئِذٍThen (on) that Dayوَقَعَتِwill occurٱلْوَاقِعَةُthe Occurrence﴿١٥﴾

Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur

وَٱنشَقَّتِAnd will splitٱلسَّمَآءُthe heavenفَهِىَso itيَوْمَئِذٍ(is on) that Dayوَاهِيَةٌfrail﴿١٦﴾

And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm

وَٱلْمَلَكُAnd the Angelsعَلَىٰٓ(will be) onأَرْجَآئِهَاits edgesوَيَحْمِلُand will bearعَرْشَ(the) Throneرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordفَوْقَهُمْabove themيَوْمَئِذٍthat Dayثَمَٰنِيَةٌeight﴿١٧﴾

And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]

يَوْمَئِذٍThat Dayتُعْرَضُونَyou will be exhibitedلَاnotتَخْفَىٰwill be hiddenمِنكُمْamong youخَافِيَةٌany secret﴿١٨﴾

That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed

فَأَمَّاThen as forمَنْ(him) whoأُوتِىَis givenكِتَٰبَهُۥhis recordبِيَمِينِهِۦin his right handفَيَقُولُwill sayهَآؤُمُHereٱقْرَءُوا۟readكِتَٰبِيَهْmy record﴿١٩﴾

So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record

إِنِّىIndeed, Iظَنَنتُwas certainأَنِّىthat Iمُلَٰقٍ(will) meetحِسَابِيَهْmy account﴿٢٠﴾

Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account
