26. Ash-Shu'ara

إِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَءَايَةًsurely, (is) a signوَمَاbut notكَانَareأَكْثَرُهُمmost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers﴿١٢١﴾

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers

وَإِنَّAnd indeedرَبَّكَyour Lordلَهُوَsurely, Heٱلْعَزِيزُ(is) the All-Mightyٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful﴿١٢٢﴾

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful

كَذَّبَتْDeniedعَادٌ(the people) of Aadٱلْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers﴿١٢٣﴾

Aad denied the messengers

إِذْWhenقَالَsaidلَهُمْto themأَخُوهُمْtheir brotherهُودٌHudأَلَاWill notتَتَّقُونَyou fear (Allah)﴿١٢٤﴾

When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah

إِنِّىIndeed, I amلَكُمْto youرَسُولٌa Messengerأَمِينٌtrustworthy﴿١٢٥﴾

Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger

فَٱتَّقُوا۟So fearٱللَّهَAllahوَأَطِيعُونِand obey me﴿١٢٦﴾

So fear Allah and obey me

وَمَآAnd notأَسْـَٔلُكُمْI ask youعَلَيْهِfor itمِنْanyأَجْرٍpaymentإِنْNotأَجْرِىَ(is) my paymentإِلَّاexceptعَلَىٰfromرَبِّ(the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds﴿١٢٧﴾

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds

أَتَبْنُونَDo you constructبِكُلِّon everyرِيعٍelevationءَايَةًa signتَعْبَثُونَamusing yourselves﴿١٢٨﴾

Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves

وَتَتَّخِذُونَAnd take for yourselvesمَصَانِعَstrongholdsلَعَلَّكُمْthat you mayتَخْلُدُونَlive forever﴿١٢٩﴾

And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally

وَإِذَاAnd whenبَطَشْتُمyou seizeبَطَشْتُمْyou seizeجَبَّارِينَ(as) tyrants﴿١٣٠﴾

And when you strike, you strike as tyrants

فَٱتَّقُوا۟So fearٱللَّهَAllahوَأَطِيعُونِand obey me﴿١٣١﴾

So fear Allah and obey me

وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱلَّذِىٓthe One Whoأَمَدَّكُمhas aided youبِمَاwith whatتَعْلَمُونَyou know﴿١٣٢﴾

And fear He who provided you with that which you know

أَمَدَّكُمHe has aided youبِأَنْعَٰمٍwith cattleوَبَنِينَand children﴿١٣٣﴾

Provided you with grazing livestock and children

وَجَنَّٰتٍAnd gardensوَعُيُونٍand springs﴿١٣٤﴾

And gardens and springs

إِنِّىٓIndeed, Iأَخَافُ[I] fearعَلَيْكُمْfor youعَذَابَ(the) punishmentيَوْمٍ(of) a DayعَظِيمٍGreat﴿١٣٥﴾

Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day

قَالُوا۟They saidسَوَآءٌ(It is) sameعَلَيْنَآto usأَوَعَظْتَwhether you adviseأَمْorلَمْnotتَكُنyou areمِّنَofٱلْوَٰعِظِينَthe advisors﴿١٣٦﴾

They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors

إِنْNotهَٰذَآ(is) thisإِلَّاbutخُلُقُ(the) customٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)﴿١٣٧﴾

This is not but the custom of the former peoples

وَمَاAnd notنَحْنُweبِمُعَذَّبِينَ(are) the ones to be punished﴿١٣٨﴾

And we are not to be punished

فَكَذَّبُوهُSo they denied himفَأَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْthen We destroyed themإِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَءَايَةًsurely, is a signوَمَاbut notكَانَareأَكْثَرُهُمmost of themمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers﴿١٣٩﴾

And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers

وَإِنَّAnd indeedرَبَّكَyour Lordلَهُوَsurely, Heٱلْعَزِيزُ(is) the All-Mightyٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful﴿١٤٠﴾

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful
